24th Annual Garden Tour

O n Friday, May 18, 2012, The Friends of Robinson Gardens will welcome the public to their twenty-fourth annual “…into the garden” Tour. This year’s theme is “California Dreamin’.” As usual, there will be five extraordinary private gardens on view, all of them exemplifying excellence in landscape architecture and varying horticultural styles. In addition to viewing these private gardens, guests are welcomed at the historic Virginia Robinson Estate and Gardens in Beverly Hills, to revel in what many consider the garden party of the year. There is truly nothing else like this event in Los Angeles.

The Robinson house is decorated for the party by prominent Los Angeles florists and interior designers. Each room is given a transformation involving color, style, and a bit of whimsy through floral arrangements and decor. After touring the house, guests are invited to enjoy a sumptuous lunch and high tea on the Great Lawn while watching a fashion show. A boutique on the Tennis Court features jewelry, clothing, hats, tableware, and plants, and is open all through the day. Guests are also able to enjoy floral workshops, a silent auction/opportunity drawing, a botanical art exhibition in the Italianate Pool Pavilion and book signings by Los Angeles authors. This year for the first time there will be copies available of Friends of Robinson Gardens’ very own book, Beverly Hills First Estate, whose sales will benefit the Garden itself.

It’s a day of elegance and beauty, overflowing with the views of magnificent gardens, exposure to creative and interesting design, tastes of delectable foods and invariably, accompanied by elevated spirits from all that it’s contained. This is the day that the Friends of Robinson Gardens have been preparing for all year. It’s the only day we open the doors of the Virginia Robinson Estate and invite our guests to enjoy a garden party in the style that Mrs. Robinson established as her own one hundred years ago.
