Holiday Decorating with Brad Austin

The holiday season got off to a great start with a class by Brad Austin of Imaginative Florals and Events. An award-winning florist, Brad has created flower designs for over 60 films and 25 television shows. His work on the “The Young and the Restless,” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” has won him recognition for his contributions to the Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement  in the Art Director/Set Decoration/Scenic Design for a Drama Series for four years. In addition, we are proud that Brad will be designing the Concierge Area for this year’s Masterpiece Garden Tour on May 16, 2015.

The class began with a delicious breakfast of quiches and frittatas catered by the Kitchen for Exploring Foods.  Brad then showed the group how to combine pumpkins and roses to create elegant, seasonal centerpieces. Tops of pale blush pumpkins were cut off. The insides were scooped out, and foam was placed inside. Lush, opulent pale roses were added all around the edges of the pumpkin, like a wreath. The top of the pumpkin was then set above the roses, creating a stunning effect.

To contrast with the pale, delicate hues, Brad then showed us a vibrant design with a traditional orange pumpkin.  He poked holes vertically along the sides of a pumpkin and filled them with glorious, fall-colored mums. After being regaled with seeing so many gorgeous creations, the class sighed with disappointment when the lecture had to finally end.
