In Memoriam: Suzanne Rheinstein

The immensely talented and world-renowned interior designer Suzanne Rheinstein sadly passed away on March 20, 2023. Her elegant and classic style was reflected in the exquisite interiors she created in homes, hotels, and retail spaces; in her store Hollyhock on La Cienega in Los Angeles; and in her fabric line for Lee Jofa. A passionate gardener, she was on the board of the Garden Conservancy. According to House Beautiful magazine, Suzanne said, “Having beautiful things around you is wonderful, but living beautifully is more important.”

Suzanne was a great supporter of The Virginia Robinson Gardens. She designed several beautiful rooms at our annual Garden Tour and Showcase House events. The Friends were thrilled to honor her as our Grand Marshal in the 2016 Garden Tour, “De Colores: The Art of Botanical Seduction.”  Suzanne said that much of her work was botanically inspired. In 2016, she gave a lecture at Robinson Gardens on her stunning book, Rooms for Living: A Style for Today with Things from the Past. Suzanne also generously opened her spectacular home and gardens in Hancock Park and in Montecito for the Benefactor, Patrons, and Fellows to visit. The Friends are so grateful for her kind support of The Virginia Robinson Gardens. Her beautiful presence will be greatly missed by all.
