February 2021 Happenings
Message from President Betty Goldstein
“Out from the slumber of this winter, wakeup and reflect and renew.”
Dear Friends,
I inherited 12 camellia trees when I bought my home many years ago. When I relandscaped, I didn’t have the heart to remove any of these small trees, so we landscaped around them. Perhaps not the best garden design, but they were living things of beauty, so they stayed. In the front, I have brilliant red ones; in the back, I have mostly white ones and one pink one. Camellias were one of Virginia Robinson’s favorite flowers, especially the pink ones. (Nuccio’s Nursery honored Virginia by developing a pink camellia named “Virginia Robinson” in 1957.)… Read More
Our Garden Tour Star Corey Andrews
Every month, we are highlighting “Our Garden Tour Stars” — landscape architects, florists, and interior designers who have participated at our annual Garden Tour and Showcase Estate at the Virginia Robinson Gardens. We want to let you know about these very talented designers, their inspirations, and their creations.
This month, we are featuring florist Corey Andrews. Corey and Luis Agramon are the owners of Sweet Peas Custom Floral. Corey assisted the Martha Stewart weddings shoot at VRG with Sophia Vergara on the cover of the magazine. The Friends had the good fortune to be introduced to Corey through our distinguished Angel member, Dorothy Kamins, a client of his weekly residential floral service.

The Jewels in the Virginia Robinson Gardens
For over a century, Virginia Robinson’s extraordinary gardens have delighted all who stepped across the threshold of her now historic home. The Friends are no strangers to how dazzling the gardens are throughout the year, from the bucolic Rose Garden to the tranquil Australian King Palm Forest to the inspiring Italian Terrace Garden, whose vibrant hues in every shade imaginable entice the eyes and soothe the soul.
For Beverly Hills jeweler Douglas Kazanjian, whose mother Virginia has been a Friend of the Gardens for over two decades, the Virginia Robinson Gardens offers an abundance of inspiration. At the 2010 VRG Patron Gala: “Jewels and All that Jazz,” the Friends honored the family. The Kazanjian Foundation, represented by Michael, Virginia, Douglas and Michelle Kazanjian, was the recipient of the “Spirit of Beverly Hills” Award.… Read More
Spotlight on Sunday Taylor
Each month we spotlight a volunteer, staff member, docent, donor, or sponsor of Virginia Robinson Gardens (VRG) — those that have made an impact on the organization. We want to let you know about these wonderful people and corporations that give so much to the Virginia Robinson Gardens and to the community, and what they do that is so impactful.
This month, we spotlight Sunday Taylor, a dedicated Friends of Robinson Gardens Member. She has co-chaired Garden Tour, Gala and the Education lecture program. She also has written beautiful articles for the Happenings about Garden Tour. When we are able to have Education lectures once again at VRG, we will be featuring Sunday who will give us a presentation on her delightful new novel, The Anglophile’s Notebook!
We asked her these four questions… Read More
