From time to time, we highlight “Our Garden Tour Stars” — landscape architects, florists, and interior designers who have participated at our annual Garden Tour and Showcase Estate at The Virginia Robinson Gardens. We want to let you know about these very talented designers, their inspirations, and their creations.
This month, we are featuring florist Marine Avetisyan of Mosaic Floral Event Design. At the 2024 Garden Tour, Marine not only decorated the Pool Pavilion with elegant arrangements of palm fronds with peach roses and green hydrangeas in classical urns, but she also draped roses and peonies with hanging amaranthus on the railings around the pool in a stunning and romantic vignette. She was also one of our esteemed judges at the Hat Contest.
We asked Marine these five questions:
1. How did you decide to become a floral designer?
As a teenager, I stumbled into floral design as a summer job and discovered a passion for crafting and creating floral arrangements. I loved the hustle of the work—the energy of designing and creating floral pieces filled me with excitement. Seeing designs come together and the emotions evoked by their beauty inspired and motivated me to pursue floral design as a career. Working with flowers taught me to appreciate their ability to bring joy and creativity into people’s lives.
2. Where do you find your inspiration?
I find inspiration in a variety of places, primarily through immersion in the world of flowers and the process of bringing my vision to reality. The streets of Los Angeles, art installations, natural landscapes, and designed interiors also influence my work, offering fresh perspectives and endless creativity. Playing music is essential in my workspace; it sets the tone for starting each day creatively and energetically.
3. Can you please share some photos of your favorite floral arrangements and/or projects you have worked on?
4. What is the book that inspires you the most?
The latest book that inspires me is A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. It stands out because it teaches one to discover the freedom and joy of life and to build a better world.
