Each month we will spotlight a volunteer, staff member, donor or sponsor of Virginia Robinson Gardens (VRG)—those that have made an impact on the organization. We want to let you, the reader, know a little bit about these wonderful people and corporations that give so much to the Virginia Robinson Gardens and community, and what they do that is so impactful.
This month, we spotlight Marian Power, our amazing and wonderful President. We asked her these three questions:
HOW DID YOU FIRST LEARN ABOUT VRG AND WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A FRIEND?
In 1994, I returned to Los Angeles. Janice Jerde, my friend and sorority sister from the University of Illinois, invited me to be her guest at Garden Tour. After that incredible event, I became a Society member of Robinson Gardens. For years I volunteered at Garden Tour. My friend, Marcella Ruble, convinced me to become a Friend, even though laughingly she said it was “more work and more money.” Becoming a Friend was totally worth it! Because of becoming a member, I have so many dear, dear friends that I love working with at Robinson Gardens.
WHAT’S YOUR ROLE – HOW DO YOU CONTRIBUTE TO VRG?
My current role is President of the Friends. Do you believe it? I still can’t.
CAN YOU SHARE A FAVORITE VRG MEMORY WITH US?
Each day I make more memories. It is impossible to choose a favorite. I think about wonderful times with this Friend, then that Friend, then I start to chuckle and another memory pops up, aaaahhh……..
How do I deserve to be so lucky?!?!?

Thank you for turning the spotlight on Marian. She is one of the hardest-working, innately talented and inspirational women I know and aspire to be like. She introduced me to the lovely gardens and invited me to many special events. I am proud to call her my friend and mentor.

Marian is a Garden Goddess. She takes inspiration from Robinson Gardens and translates into her own gorgeous garden that I’ve admired for years.
