Each month we spotlight a volunteer, staff member, docent, donor, or sponsor of Virginia Robinson Gardens (VRG) — those that have made an impact on the organization. We want to let you know about these wonderful people and corporations that give so much to the Virginia Robinson Gardens and to the community, and what they do that is so impactful.
This month, we spotlight Laura Alpert, a dedicated Friend of Robinson Gardens Board Member. Through her generosity, Laura helped restore the Display Rose Garden.
1. How did you first learn about VRG, and what inspired you to become a Friend?
I found out about the Virginia Robinson Gardens when my dear friend Elissa Bregman became President many years ago. She recommended that I become a Friend, and I was glad to join.
2. What’s your role – How do you contribute to VRG?
Presently, I am a Member-at-Large Board member and am happy to help and give my support wherever it is needed.
Having held many positions over the years, such as co-chairing the Gala with Leslie Kavanaugh, and helping choose gardens for Garden Tour with Maralee Beck and Jeanne Anderson, I have organized the New Members Luncheon, and along with Jill Collins, was in charge of the Vendors Boutique at Garden Tour. Years ago, I arranged the Children’s Holiday Party which has now become the Children’s Science Fair. I also enjoyed being the historian/archivist for VRG along with Jill Collins and the late Ivo Hadjiev, Virginia’s last majordomo.
3. Can you share a favorite VRG memory with us?
One of my best memories is sitting with Ivo and listening to him tell me the most wonderful stories about Virginia and the Robinson Gardens. I have fabulous memories of all the times and events I’ve been to at the Robinson Gardens and cherish the wonderful friendships that I have made.
