Spotlight on Leslie Kavanaugh

Each month we will spotlight a volunteer, staff member, donor or sponsor of Virginia Robinson Gardens (VRG)—those that have made an impact on the organization. We want to let you, the reader, know a little bit about these wonderful people and corporations that give so much to the Virginia Robinson Gardens and the community, and what they do that is so impactful.

This month, we spotlight Leslie Kavanaugh, a dedicated Friend of Robinson Gardens and Board Member. We asked her these three questions:

1.  How did you first learn about VRG and what inspired you to become a Friend?

Laura Alpert, a longtime Friend of Robinson Gardens and friend of mine urged me and helped me to get involved. I attended the Gala and was so enchanted and met so many wonderful and warm people, and that was the beginning about 15 years ago.

2.  What’s your role – How do you contribute to VRG?

Over many years, I have chaired the Gala twice and chaired Garden Tour and the Children’s Holiday Party. I have been Vice President and President, worked on getting our CC&R’s changed, worked with PR and Community Outreach, Financials, Education, and Restoration. Officially, I am on the Board this year as a member of the Advisory Council. It was my great privilege and honor to be one of this year’s honorees for the 2018 Gala. I continue to work on Garden Tour and other projects.

3.  Can you share a favorite VRG memory with us?

Some of my very favorite memories are my times with Ivo, Mrs. Robinson’s majordomo. Many afternoons, when the Gardens were quiet, we would sit and talk and he would tell me stories of times past. Once he told me that he always knew when Mrs. Robinson was arriving home at night after attending an affair, as she would start honking the horn of her car at the beginning of Elden Way and not stop until she saw Ivo! We talked and laughed and reminisced, and those are treasured times.
