Spotlight on Robin Blake

Each month we will spotlight a volunteer, staff member, donor or sponsor of Virginia Robinson Gardens (VRG) — those that have made an impact on the organization. We want to let you, the reader, know a little bit about these wonderful people and corporations that give so much to the Virginia Robinson Gardens and to the community, and what they do that is so impactful.

This month, we spotlight Robin Blake, a dedicated Friend of Robinson Gardens Board Member. On one occasion, Robin generously opened her elegant and beautiful garden for guests to visit at Garden Tour.

We asked her these three questions:

1. How did you first learn about VRG, and what inspired you to become a Friend?

My very dear friend Leslie Kavanaugh inspired me, and I would always volunteer for the Christmas Children’s event in December. I like being a part of old Los Angeles and working on historical homes and gardens.

2.  What’s your role – How do you contribute to VRG?

I am on the Board of Directors of the Friends of Robinson Gardens, and my position on the Board is Volunteer Liaison. Liaison means that whenever they need help on any project, I work with them on whatever they need me to do.

 3.  Can you share a favorite VRG memory with us?

Last September, when we had our Gala, I was one of the co-chairs for that event. I needed to bring in a major auction item. With the help of Leslie Kavanaugh, I managed to bring in the Silversea Cruise Ship for our live auction. Silversea Cruise Line had never done this before, and I was so thrilled that I was able to achieve that for FRG. I was told that it was the best auction item ever received at the Gardens.

  1. Please add any additional information you would like to share.

I work on a soap opera called General Hospital. I am a Patron of the Los Angeles Ballet, and a member of the Blue Ribbon, the Mannequins, the League for Children, and the Beverly Hills Garden Club.

We are happy to hear of her success for Virginia Robinson Gardens; in particular the December Children’s Christmas event. We know she will continue to do ‘good’ where ever she puts her effort in the future…
