Spotlight on Natalie Gordon

Each month we spotlight a volunteer, staff member, docent, donor, or sponsor of Virginia Robinson Gardens (VRG) — those that have made an impact on the organization. We want to let you know about these wonderful people and corporations that give so much to the Virginia Robinson Gardens and to the community, and what they do that is so impactful.

This month, we spotlight Natalie Gordon, a dedicated Friend of Robinson Gardens Board Member and Chair of the Membership Committee.

We asked her these three questions:

1. How did you first learn about VRG, and what inspired you to become a Friend?

I first learned about VRG when I went on a tour of the home and gardens with my 3rd grade class years ago. I was so taken with the beauty and history of the gardens – a real hidden jewel right in my hometown – that I never forgot about them. When the opportunity came about to volunteer at Garden Tour in 2018, I jumped at the chance to go back to those gorgeous gardens and help the Friends (an organization I’d long admired).

2. What’s your role – How do you contribute to VRG?

My role is as Board Member and the Friends’ Membership Chair, meaning that I oversee the recruitment and onboarding of new members as well as support continuing members. In today’s isolating times, I think it is so important to be involved with organizations. So I am honored to be facilitating members’ involvement.

I also assist Patti Reinstein with Rentals, where we allow people the opportunity to rent the house and gardens for special events. It is my goal that the experience of organizing an event at the gardens is as enjoyable for those doing it as their experience visiting.

However, I like to think I also contribute to VRG by bringing my love of event planning (like the virtual Gingerbread House Decorating event I’m organizing this year), organizational and interpersonal skills, and sunny demeanor.

3. Can you share a favorite VRG memory with us?

My favorite VRG memory was when I recruited and managed a group of 20+ volunteers for Gala in September 2019. Everything from coordinating the volunteers to crafting an organizational plan for where everyone needed to be throughout the night to running around all evening making sure the myriad volunteer posts were running smoothly was exhilarating!
